Veterans Day 2021

veterans day

November 11st, as we all know, is a very special day for all Americans. Memories come back of families and old comrades-of distant days and places from the past. Some of those Veterans are still with us, sharing in the challenges of peace, just as they did their duty in wartime. Others we shall never see again. But they, especially, are here with us in spirit in the shadow of the Tomb of the Unknowns. In Mallard Creek STEM Academy we join together to honor those who made our freedom possible.

History of Veterans Day

The holiday honors all veterans of the United States armed forces. There is a moment of silence at 11 AM remembering those who fought for peace. (Commemorates the cease-fire in the 1918 armistice which was scheduled for “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.”)

The theme for Veterans Day 2021 is centered on the centennial commemoration of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Located at Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb was initially dedicated by the Army on Armistice Day, November 11, 1921, with the burial of an unknown service member from World War I. Over the past century, additional unknowns have been buried at the Tomb, and the site has become a people’s memorial that inspires reflection on service, valor, sacrifice and mourning.

Charlotte’s annual Salute to Veteran Parade will be back in Uptown Charlotte, in person, on Saturday, November 6th,  2021, at 11 a.m. More than 2,000 participants will gather to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Let this Veterans Day strengthen our resolve to always walk the extra mile for peace, always walking it strong and unafraid.
